Next time you need to round or chamfer a banded edge, take a look at the new flexClick cutter from Leuco. The diamond-tipped cutter has an automatic adjustment option that switches it between two profiles, saving a lot of set-up time. The mechanism works much the same way that a ballpoint pen does - switching between profiles is done by just pressing the tool at standstill on a copy wheel (there's a video on the company's website). No complicated motor controllers are required. The new cutter is available for machines from Homag, among others. The tooling is ideal for small edge banding machines, and for companies that want to produce small lot sizes with low set-up requirements. The flexClick edge rounding cutters are available now, and other profile combinations are available upon request. |

The latest versions of Cabinet Vision and Workplan will be featured at Wood Pro Expo and the Cabinets & Closets Conference in Charlotte in March. Cabinet Vision for woodworkers generates photo-realistic images and, at the click of a button, lets users transition from art to part. They can create shop drawings, generate cut and material lists, formulate bids, apply production standards, maximize material yield and more. The new version of Workplan is geared toward optimizing logistical flow by letting users model the woodshop and localize inventory during the manufacturing process. In addition to tracking project status and making it easy to determine remaining job tasks, the system also manages purchasing needs and tracks man-hours for efficiency. |

Amherst, N.Y. based Williams & Hussey Machine Co., Inc. has been manufacturing molders and profile knives for over 60 years, and constantly updates it's catalog. Among a dozen or so new profiles are those shown at left. The one in the center, 3304-EP, is a cabinet door frame with a 9/32" bead and 3/8" relief. And 3305 (on the bottom in the photo) is also a cabinet door frame that measures 3/4" x 3" wide, and has the standard 3/8" relief. Profile knives are made in sets of two to ensure molding profiles have a crisp clean finish. Precision bolt hole alignment, proper knife clearance and angle back off are all signs of the high quality the company has delivered for decades. If a shop can't find the right profile in the catalog, custom knives are shipped within 1-2 business days, and sharpening services are completed within the same timeframe. |

A new aluminum cleat from Picture Hang Solutions may solve a few other problems for woodworkers beyong hanging framed canvas. Rated at 100 pounds per linear inch, the cleat comes in lengths up to 90" (7-1/2 feet, and it can be cut to length), and the profile is just 0.22" from the wall. That means it should work well for lighter wall cabinets with a 1/4" deep recessed back. The holes are one inch on center and alternate from large to small. This makes it easier to level the cleat and use larger screws in studs. The small screw hole accommodates up to a #8 screw, and the larger one handles up to a #12 screw. Made in the USA, the interlocked halves (they're identical) combine for a height of 1-7/8" tall. The aluminum is aircraft grade and 3/32" thick, and the minimum order is just three pairs (6 cleats) |

The new Bosch GKT13-225 plunging track saw can make table-saw quality cuts in a portable format - you bring the tool to the wood, rather than the other way around. That makes it ideal for small shops and on-site work. The optional tracks (sold separately) deliver straight, fast, finish cuts. The saw has constant electronics to help maintain speed under load, a spindle lock, a swiveling hose port, a lock-off mechanism, and overload protection. It has a single pivot point for both bevel and non-bevel cuts from minus 1 to plus 47 degrees. It includes a 48-tooth blade, wrench and case. Bosch offers a full range of optional attachments, including four different track lengths, connector for connecting multiple tracks, an angle guide and a rip fence. |

While landscapers and contractors will welcome this new cordless alternative to a gas-powered chainsaw, woodturners in particular should find it useful. Makita's brushless 14" Chain Saw Kit (model XCU07PT) runs on 36 Volts, delivered by two 18-Volt X2 LXT® batteries. With zero emissions, lower noise, and considerably less maintenance, users get high power efficiency that is equivalent to a gas chain saw. The saw's Makita-built motor has variable speed from zero to 3,940 feet per minute (FPM). There's no engine oil to change, no spark plug to replace, and no air filter or muffler to clean. And there's no need to drain the fuel for storage. Convenience features include captured bar nuts, lateral chain tensioning, a front hand guard engineered to actuate the chain brake when engaged, and a built-on lock lever to help prevent the chain from accidentally engaging. |

Changing The Rules For Sanding Woodworking creates a lot of airborne dust, and ceiling-mounted ambient air cleaners may not be the best solution. They pull the dust upward, past the operator's nose and mouth, where particles remain suspended in the circulating air. The Axiom Stratus is a truly innovative air cleaner. It pulls the dust and debris downward from the work surface toward the floor, where it naturally wants to fall. Once filtered, the clean air is propelled upward into the shop environment, where we breathe. Thoughtfully engineered, this is a portable, rugged, highly effective machine, which addresses all of the shortcomings of the ceiling-mounted design. A wide base, 360 degree handle and long power cord allow it to be effortlessly moved throughout the shop. Filters can be accessed with a simple twist-and-lift. It ships fully assembled, and uses a modern, pleated canister air filter element, with a surface area that is nearly 15 times that of a traditional furnace filter and bag arrangement. Here's a video... |

Intro to Wood Veneering & Inlay Wood & Shop has posted a new video in which master furniture maker and marquetarian Dave Heller shares an introduction to wood veneering and wood inlay for furniture making. These are traditional methods used to embellish and beautify furniture. The distinction between them is that veneering is the process of gluing thin slices of attractive (and often rare) wood onto core panels, while inlay involves insetting wood, precious stones, etc. into the wood. Woodworkers can also join Heller in person at a Wood & Shop hands-on, two-day seminar (Monday and Tuesday, June 3 and 4) on making an inlaid chess board, that covers the core concepts and practical hand skills required. The cost is $320. Heller is a Canadian furniture maker who now lives in Charlottesville, Virginia. He specializes in marquetry, veneering, and advanced inlay work and builds Art Deco furniture. |
