A New Detail Sanding Option from Foredom

Foredom is a division of Blackstone Industries, LLC in Bethel, Connecticut and the company has been supplying flex shaft tools for the past 99 years. New in the catalog are half a dozen sanding sets that will be of interest to furniture builders who need to sand details such as carvings. They’re intended for jewelry and metals, mold polishing, electronic polishing, instrument polishing and furniture. These are shaft-mounted rolls of Japanese made Kovak® paper. For example, the set that we’ve blown up in the image is an 11-piece set with 11 grit assortments and a 3/32″ (2.35 mm) shank (item AK12154, $23.60), and each paper has a durable backing and an abrasive surface for wet or dry sanding. There’s one roll of each grit: 180, 220, 240, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500 and 2000. These are designed for a maximum speed of 5,000 RPM, but optimum speeds are much lower (between 25% and 50% of that) and depend on the type of workpiece. As the abrasive wears, simply peel the paper back and tear it off to expose fresh abrasive. The roll is made up of 1″ wide x 10″ lengths of high-quality abrasive paper. The overall length of this accessory is 2-1/4″ (57 mm).
