19 Aug A New Jobsite Charger and Radio from Makita
On August 17th, Makita U.S.A. released a new device that works with both its 18- and 12-Volt battery systems. The Cordless Bluetooth Job Site Charger/Radio (item XRM10) charges 18V LXT and 12V max CXT batteries. An 18V LXT Lithium-Ion 5.0Ah battery can be charged in eighty minutes while the woodworker listens to music on the jobsite. The company says that “the radio delivers rich, full stereo sound from two powerful 3.5” side-firing speakers”. Users can listen to the digital AM or FM tuner or to a mobile device that is wirelessly connected via Bluetooth, or to an MP3 player that is connected via a wire to the auxiliary port. The XRM10 is durable and is designed to withstand harsh jobsite conditions. The device is dust and water-resistant with an IP64 rating, and it has elastomer bumpers on the corners for increased durability and a roll cage on the front to protect the backlit LCD screen and buttons. Those include menu controls for mono or stereo, clock, volume, etc. There’s a built-in storage space for portable devices (it can handle fairly large phones but check before you buy) and it even has a bottle opener! A woodworker can also charge phones and other devices by using one of its two USB ports. The body of the XRM10 opens up along a diagonal line (it’s hinged at the bottom) and allows the user to slide a battery in place for charging. The XRM10 weighs 13.2 lbs, is listed at $319 at most outlets and comes with a 3-year Makita warranty. It measures 11-1/4” x 7-1/4” x 12”.
