Cordless Cut-Out Tool That Can Turn On a Vacuum

A new cordless, brushless cut-out tool (XOC02Z) from Makita USA, Inc. has AWS™ (Auto-Start Wireless System, a Bluetooth® connection) that can be used to turn on a shop vacuum or a dust collector when the tool starts up. The tool is ideal for cutting materials such as drywall, tile, wood, thin metal and Fiberglas™, and it can cut up to two layers of ½” drywall. The Makita-built BL™ brushless motor delivers 32,000 RPM and the tool accepts both 1/8” and 1/4” bits. This is “the world’s first AWS-capable cordless cut-out tool”, according to Makita. With an auto-start wireless transmitter (item 198901-5, sold separately), the new tool can connect to an AWS-equipped dust extractor for wireless ON/OFF. Other features include a tool-free depth adjustment, twin LED lights, an electric brake, a slide switch with lock-on, and vent slots to direct air and debris away from the operator. It uses the company’s 18V LXT® battery system and the net weight (with battery) is 3.7 lbs. Its overall length is 12-1/4” and it includes a 1/8” collet cone and nut, a wrench, and two 1/8” drywall cut-out bits.
