16 Aug Cordless Random Orbit Sander from Skil
The PWRCORE 20™ five-inch random orbit sander kit (item SR6604B-10, $99) has been out for a few months now and is getting decent reviews. As with any RO, it vibrates and spins simultaneously for a smooth finish. It has variable speed control that’s adjustable from 7,000 to 11,000 orbits per minute (OPM) and a hook-and-loop pad for quick and easy change of sandpaper grits. It comes with a 2.0Ah Lithium-Ion battery, a 1-hour charger, and three sanding discs (1x 60 Grit, 2×120 Grit). What caught our eye was the unusual hard, clear plastic microfiltration canister that collects the dust.
Skil’s PWRCORE 20™ lithium battery technology wraps each cell with cooling material to keep the battery powering on for 25% longer run time and 2X battery life.
This is not a brushless motor, but it has plenty of power. The power switch is dust-sealed for extended tool life, the sanding orbit is relatively fine at 3mm (0.11811”), and the tool is fairly lightweight at 2.65 lbs. It measures 6.3” tall, 5.7” long and 5.9” wide.
