28 Sep Delta Machinery’s 18” Laser Woodworking Drill Press
Delta Machinery says its model 18-900L is “the first professionally featured drill press designed with the woodworker in mind”. The press has a 3/4 HP motor and a 6″ quill stroke, along with a patented oversized woodworker’s table that both bevels and tilts for compound drilling operations. This table has T-slots for clamping, and a removable center insert for through-table drilling. There’s an auto-tensioning belt drive for fast and easy speed changes, and both micro-adjustable depth stops and an independent depth scale that allows the user to zero the scale and set up quickly for repetitive drilling. A fully adjustable Twinlaser projects a bright red crosshair on the workpiece at the point of bit contact, and a flexible LED light illuminates the work surface.
The table is 20” x 14”, and the insert measures 3-3/4” x 3-3/4” x ¾”. The press has a #2 Morse spindle taper, and the quill diameter is 52mm. The chuck can handle drill bit shafts up to 5/8” in diameter. The distance from the chuck to the base is 42-1/2”, and the maximum chuck to table capacity is 22-1/4”.
This machine weighs 240 lbs. (the shipping weight is 261 lbs.), and it has sixteen speed settings that range from 170 RPM to 3000 RPM. The table can tilt 90 degrees left/right and 48 degrees forward. The column is 80mm, and the chuck is a Jacobs #3. The 18-900L is 70” tall, 28” deep and comes with a 5-year warranty. Available accessories include a clear plastic curved shield that surrounds the chuck, a fence and three different vises.
