02 Apr Festool Cordless TID 18 Impact Drill
The new compact 18-Volt drill (item 576479, $199 tool only with Systainer, also available with batteries and chargers) has an extremely robust hammer mechanism. It’s built around the new generation brushless EC-TEC motor and has three speed levels and a “T” mode that’s specifically designed for self-tapping screws. The kickback-free hammer mechanism drives the fastener rather than spinning the drill around the screw, thus protecting the woodworker’s wrist. The compact design (it’s only 2.12 lbs.) lets the operator work accurately and for longer periods of time without becoming tired, even in hard-to-reach areas. There’s a tool-free universal quick-release 1/4” bit holder/chuck plus integrated magnetic bit storage, an LED light, and a belt clip that can attach on either side. Packed in a Systainer, the TID 18 can be integrated into an existing Festool tool storage system (or it can become the start of a new one). The clever T-mode detects the transition between sheet metal and wood, and automatically adapts the speed. And the long trigger pull lets the operator incrementally adjust the speed to reduce the risk of overdriving screws and fasteners. The max torque is 1593.18 inch pounds.
