02 Dec Industrial Strength Benchtop Pocket Cutter
It’s not often a woodshop can purchase a professional grade machine for $399, and this really is an impressive machine. The new 110 Pocket Cutter from Castle creates low, 3-degree pockets that minimize joint shift (creep), particularly when compared to other pocket hole joinery solutions. It mills professional pockets in seconds for strong and attractive joints for cabinets, bookcases, face frames and other woodworking projects. And unlike most pocket systems, the screw’s pilot hole is drilled from the opposite side so there is no accumulation of waste or tear out, allowing joined pieces to fit as tightly as possible. That saves time, too, because there’s no clean-up or sanding involved. Woodworkers who have fiddled for ages trying to adjust other jigs will appreciate the ease with which this machine adjusts for depth. There’s a dust extraction port for a vac hose, and the machine comes factory assembled and adjusted so there’s no additional setup required. It’s designed and assembled in the USA from U.S. and global components. The Castle 110 replaces the popular 100, which is no longer in production. It includes an overlay plate for quickly machining thinner materials (Part C11001); a bit set-up block with integrated bit height gauge (Part C11010); collet wrenches (Part K11000); a T20 Torx driver bit with a 6″ shaft (Part B00620); a router bit (Part B02516) that is already installed and factory adjusted for 3/4″ stock; an extra-long (6″) 5/32″ drill bit for pilot holes (Part B06532); a box of two hundred and fifty 1-1/2″ Torx Hi-Low pocket screws (Part B04112-0250); and a box of two hundred and fifty 1-1/4″ screws (Part B04114-0250). Available add-on options are a work Stop Set, includes stop bar, left and right work stops [Part C11060] that is actually being included for free for a limited time, and a roughing cutter for hardwoods [Part B02517].
