01 Jan Leitz Adjustable Joint Cutter
The Diamaster EdgeExpert from Leitz is an adjustable joint cutting head that promises longer tool life, significantly less tear-out, and lower set-up costs. Processing panels for furniture and casework can be expensive because of the variety of materials that are laminated together in today’s raw materials. The adjustable head delivers perfect processing quality of the panel edges through something called wear compensation. On sheet stock with laminate or melamine layers, tools wear faster in those harder, more brittle areas and the quality of the cut declines quickly as edges fade. That leads to costs associated with frequent tool changing, and the need to inventory replacement tools and sharpen frequently.
Leitz says the solution is innovative, adjustable diamond cutters from its EdgeExpert™ line. By adjusting the width of the cutters, unused sharp edges can be located precisely to tackle more wear-sensitive layers in the sheet stock. The result is high machining quality of the panel edges, and significantly more efficiency in the overall process.
The cutting head offers Hydro-Duo sleeves for maximum concentricity and axial run-out accuracy, an RFID chip for automatic tool identification, and the ability to create customized solutions. The head is particularly well-suited to zero joint technology and offers excellent cutting results due to optimum cutting geometry and centering. It also delivers better use of previously unused portions of the cutting edge, cost savings, and some power and energy savings due to the innovative design. There’s no axial adjustment of the spindle required after width adjustment.
