17 Sep Makita 18V LXT® Subcompact Brushless StarlockMax Multitool
Makita’s newest multitool (model XMT04ZB) combines performance and speed with low vibration, reduced noise, and the efficiency of the StarlockMax® System. It has a brushless motor and a variable speed control dial that runs from 10,000 to 20,000 oscillations per minute (OPM), with soft-start so users can match the speed to the application. It has a 3.6-degree oscillation angle for faster, more aggressive cutting and sanding. The small diameter barrel grip provides improved handling, and there’s a large ON/OFF slide switch with a lock-on button. The tool has Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT®), which is an internal counterbalance system that is engineered to reduce vibration. It also has Extreme Protection Technology (XPTTM) that provides improved dust and water resistance for operation in harsh conditions. But perhaps the best part of this new tool is StarlockMax, which is a tool-free clamp system that allows for faster accessory installation. When used with Starlock oscillating multitool accessories, it’s ideal for cutting, sanding, scraping, grout removal, and other applications. The XMT04 is compatible with StarlockMax. StalockPlus®, and Starlock® accessories. The tool is 12” long and weighs 4.4 lbs with a battery installed (although it doesn’t come with one).
Makita’s 18V LXT® system is the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V lithium-ion slide-style batteries, which the company says “have the fastest charge times in their categories”.
