03 May Makita Adds New Tools to the XGT System
At the beginning of May, California based Makita® continued its expansion of the 40V/80V max XGT® System with the announcement of 19 new cordless products. XGT gives users one battery platform for a full range of equipment and tools, from demolition hammers and high-capacity saws to core handheld tools like drills and impact drivers. Of particular interest to woodworkers are a reciprocating saw, a pair of circular saws that are guide rail compatible, a 23-gauge pin nailer and a compact router.
The first of these, the 40-volt max GRJ02, is a brushless orbital reciprocating saw that combines fast cutting with lower vibration. The Makita-built motor delivers the power of a corded 15-Amp saw, and it has an orbital action setting for faster cuts in wood. It’s equipped with Makita’s exclusive Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT®), which is an internal counterbalance system that significantly reduces vibration.
Next up, the GSH04Z is a brushless 10-1/4″ circular saw with a guide rail compatible base. It is AWS® (auto-start wireless) capable, so it can start a dust collector. There’s a 9-1/4” version, too (the GSH03Z). These two powerful saws combine efficient cutting and increased capacity and, when used with a guide rail (sold separately), they offer a more portable jobsite option over a table saw for precision cuts and breaking down sheets.
The GTP01 is a brushless 23-gauge powerful and portable pin nailer that delivers up to 15% faster firing than Makita’s 18-volt model. It will drive six different lengths of nails, with a max magazine capacity of up to 120 pin nails.
And the brushless compact router (GTR01Z) is a full-featured tool that delivers up to 1.5 HP of performance and has five speed settings to match the cutter speed to the application.
