06 Jul Milwaukee’s New Cordless Detail Sander
Milwaukee Tool’s new M12 FUEL™ Orbital Detail Sander (model 2531-20, $149, available in August) offers faster detail sanding, while leaving a stain-grade finish and more access to tight corners and contours. It’s optimized to perform applications on-site that are traditionally done by hand. It replaces inefficient hand-sanding tasks such as removing imperfections from finish materials, breaking sharp edges on hardwood, and refinishing installed trim pieces. Its orbital sanding motion avoids scratches and gouges at a precise removal rate, leaving a stain-grade finish.
The sander’s ergonomic design allows for more access to tight corners and contours, for more precise sanding. The optional sponge pad allows the abrasive to contour to the work surface when working with complex trim profiles, while the pad saver protects against excessive heat buildup to extend the life of the backing pad. The sander has an LED Work Light, a variable speed trigger, and four different speed modes that can be selected for more precision sanding. It has been fitted with a lock-on button for greater comfort at extended durations, while the compact size allows for efficient tool-belt storage.
Milwaukee is also introducing new Mesh Sanding Sheets that are exclusively compatible with the M12 FUEL™ Orbital Detail Sander. The Milwaukee Mesh Sanding Sheets are designed with POWERGRID™ Tear Resistant Mesh and a durable nylon backing for maximum durability against sharp edges and corners. Milwaukee says these sheets last up to 12x longer than standard sandpaper and are coated with sharp cutting grains for faster material removal and a flawless finish. Standard sandpaper is prone to clogging. However, the open weave-design on the Milwaukee Mesh Sanding Sheets allows users to shake, vacuum, blow, or rinse them clean, preventing material build-up for repeated use and longer life.
The sander delivers 14000 maximum RPM, weighs 1.35lbs. without the battery, and comes with a 5-year warranty, Sponge Pad, Pad Saver, and an Abrasives Kit (3) 80 Grit, (3) 120-Grit, (3) 180-Grit. The sanding sheets will be available in 80, 120, 150, 180, 220, 320 and 400 grits.
