30 Jan New Spektra V-Groove Bits from Amana Tool
Amana has released some new V-groove bits with the company’s colorful Spektra™ Extreme Tool Life coating. Among them is item 45633-K, which is a solid carbide 90-degree bit with a 1/4″ diameter and a 1/8” depth of cut. It has a 1/4” shank, 4 flutes and a 2-1/2” overall length. It’s designed for cutting decorative V-grooves and lettering on signs, and it works with an edge guide to chamfer and bevel edges.
This bit can be used with handheld, table-mounted and CNC routers. Among the materials it cuts are 20lb. high density urethane, acrylic, composites, composite decking, foam, laminate, MDF, HDF, Melamine, plywood, PVC plastic, sign board, solid surfaces, veneered plywood, wood and Xanita® board.
Spektra™ bits feature a nACo® nano-composite coating with an extreme nano-hardness and heat resistance. With a brilliant, distinctively tinted coloring, nACo provides additional improvements in four critical aspects of router tooling. It is a micro-thin ceramic coating which enables the tool’s cutting edge to retain crucial sharpness and lubricity. This provides longevity and produces cutting results of the highest quality. It prevents high heat and oxidation which is detrimental to cutting tool performance. The multi-colored hues, while attractive, will dissipate upon use and yet the coating will remain fully effective. nACo offers approximately 4,500 Vickers for impressive solid hardness on cutting areas of the tool, for an increase up to 2.5 times compared to uncoated bits.
At a CNC operating spindle speed of 18,000 RPM, this bit is recommended for 90 IPM and 0.0024” chip load per tooth in hardwood, softwood, plastic and plywood, and 180” and 0.0048” chip load in MDF. The feed rate needs to be reduced on deeper cuts (see the website for details).
