15 Jan Phone Chargers for Cabinets
Two new phone/device chargers from Doug Mockett & Company, Inc. in Torrance, California can handle a range of solutions for woodworkers building technology into kitchens, retail spaces and offices. The small, inexpensive ($26.50 to $23.95) WCS8 offers both USB and wireless charging and is installed quickly and easily in 2-3/8” hole in a shelf or countertop. Once it’s plugged in, a client can just rest a phone directly on the charging surface and forget about it as it charges while they work. For customers who don’t have a wireless charging equipped phone, a twist-cap rotates to reveal a hidden traditional USB port for plug-in tethered charging. The maximum output is 10 Watts, and it comes with a 4’ cord with a USB/AC adapter. The diameter is 2-31/32″ and it extends just 5/32″ above the counter. It’s available in black or white.
A larger option for a shared office or a whole family is the new PCS84/WCU1-90M. This unit offers household power outlets, data, USB charging and wireless phone charging all in one. It’s housed in a sleek and stylish compartment that sits nearly flush with the surface. The unit calls for recessed in-desk mounting with a flip-up lid for access to receptacles and jacks. The lid closes when not in use, for a clean look and can actually be left closed for smaller plugs while in use. It has three wireless chargers, two power outlets, two USB-A jacks, a Cat5 data jack (other options are available), and is UL listed. It fits countertops and panels from 3/8” minimum to 1-½” maximum thickness. There’s a 6’ power cord and prices range from $556.75 to $503.15, depending on quantity.
