24 Aug Quiet, Cordless Canister Vacuum from Makita
A couple of days ago Woodezine reported on a new jobsite radio and charger from Makita USA, Inc., and the company has also released a new 36-Volt dry dust extractor (model XCV25). It uses two 18-Volt batteries to bring cordless dust collection to the jobsite. This is a canister vacuum that delivers up to 100 minutes of continuous run time on the standard setting and 42 minutes on a high setting, when it’s equipped with two 5 Ah batteries (sold separately). The Makita-built brushless motor delivers 74 CFM of air and 44” of water lift suction (this is a dry vac, not a wet/dry). The tool has an oversized on-off switch, variable speed control dial, and dual L.E.D. battery indicators. A large rubber bumper helps prevent damage to the work environment and rear casters with locking levers help prevent the vacuum from moving. The motor chamber is constructed with sound-absorbing materials, creating just 64dB on the high setting. A removable storage box holds attachments and batteries. The vacuum comes equipped with two anti-static hoses (1-1/2” x 8’ and 1” x 11-1/2’) and an Auto-start wireless transmitter that uses Bluetooth® between a tool and the dust extractor. It has a 4-gallon reservoir and a HEPA three-stage filtration system that captures 99.97% of particulates that are 0.3 microns or larger. It weighs 19 lbs., comes with three adapters that fit most power tools, and a 10-pack of disposable plastic liners. There’s a crevice tool, a floor nozzle, an aluminum bending pipe and a telescoping wand.
Makita’s dust extraction system now includes canister and backpack vacuums as well as a comprehensive range of attachments for woodworking. Shops seeking a system that is compliant with the OSHA Silica Standard (RULE 29 CFR 1926.1153) can use the Makita website to search by application or model number.
