30 Jul Right Angle and Eccentric Chucks, Dust Extraction Device from Festool
Festool USA LLC in Lebanon, Indiana says it will introduce two new drill chucks next month that have specialized uses, and it will also unveil an attachment for removing dust when mixing powders with water such as when mudding drywall.
The Angle Attachment AN-UNI (item 205222, listed at $130) will work with all Festool brand C and T cordless drills that have the company’s FastFix fixture, except the CXS and TXS drills. This attachment connects directly to the output shaft of the compatible drills for right angle drilling and driving. It offers quick angle adjustment simply by rotating the green ring without removing the chuck from the drill, so it can be pointed at any angle to the body/handle of the tool. That could come in very handy when working in confined spaces such as inside cabinets or between rafters.
The Eccentric Chuck EX-UNI (item 205223, $130) is very similar in that it fits the same drills, and it offers off-center driving that can reach around some objects.
The new Dust Extraction MX–A (item 576759, $49) is an accessory for the company’s MX 1200 stirrer and CT Dust Extractors, but we suspect woodworkers will also find ways to make it useful. It’s designed to limit exposure to dust when one is filling and mixing powder-like materials. The MX dust extraction is simply clipped onto the edge of the MX 1200’s bucket and it helps to ensure that dust ends up in the dust extractor – and not in the worker’s lungs. The idea is to collect airborne fines at their source, and it is designed to deliver effective extraction as soon as a powdery material is poured into the bucket. The dust disappears into the extractor from the moment the mixing material is poured in, so the operator doesn’t need to battle clouds of dust while stirring.
