09 Sep South Bend Tools 21″ Variable-Speed Gearhead Drill Presses SB1115 and SB1116
This is a pair of industrial grade presses (SB1115 and SB1116) that can be purchased with or without a cross slide table with longitudinal and vertical power feed. Both presses have variable-speed 3-phase motors with a built-in inverter that lets them run on single-phase, 220V power. There’s a digital spindle speed readout on the headstock, and a clutch-engaged down-feed function. The operator can choose between powered or hand-cranked rack-and-pinion table elevation, and coarse or fine down-feed controls. There are red anodized spindle stroke and table elevation handles, and a cast-iron base with two 1/2″ T-slots that are 8-7/8″ on center. Both the table and the head can swivel 360 degrees around the post. A front-mounted emergency stop button is supplied, along with a forward/reverse spindle switch. The motor draws 5.5 Amps at 220 Volts.
The maximum travel in the spindle is a generous 5” and there’s 10-7/16″ clearance between the spindle (the center of a drill bit) and the column. The maximum distance between the spindle and table is 17-3/8″, and the head can travel 13 -3/8″. These are powerful machines that can drill up to 1-1/2″ (40mm) in steel or cast-iron. The two variable speed ranges are 0 to 350 RPM (Low) and 0 to 2500 RPM (High). The heads can also tilt 30 degrees to the right and 90 degrees to the left. The keyed JT6 chuck accepts drill bit shafts from 1/64″ diameter to 5/8″.
The SB1115 has an MT#3 tapered spindle and the drawbar thread size is M12 x 1.75. The cross travel is 7″ and the table measures 19-1/2″ L x 21-3/4″ W x 2-1/4″ T.
The SB1116 with the cross table has an R-8 spindle taper, 7/16″-20 drawbar thread, 7-1/4″ of cross travel and a table that measures 23″ L x 7-1/2″ W x 1-3/4″ T.
