The DustRouter from Milescraft

The DustRouter from Milescraft

This is a very innovative company that produces many inexpensive jigs and fixtures for woodworkers. The DustRouter (SKU: 1501) is a great example. It has been available for about a year now, and it gets pretty good reviews. It’s a device that can be used with a router table to catch dust above and below the surface. The company’s advertising pitch is: “Breathe Easy – DustRouter Gets Nearly All Sawdust!” Listed at $29.99, it’s not a big investment – and we’re all for anything that can help reduce airborne fines.

The DustRouter can be mounted directly to a router table or insert plate, making it easy to adjust or change tools. It will deliver maximum dust collection while edge trimming or milling dovetails or tenons, but as with any routing operation when the bit is plowing a groove in the bottom of the board, most of the waste is going to shoot out the end. Still, the vacuum at the bit will certainly collect lighter fines and some of the heavier particles even on a hidden cut.

Milescraft says that the DustRouter can be used with or without the router table fence. It’s easy to attach to most router tables for permanent or temporary use, and Velcro™ circle pads mount directly to the router table or insert plate. The standard hose (1-1/2″ or 38mm diameter) attaches to most workshop vacuums and dust collectors. There’s a flexible silicone dust cup with Velcro that fits most routers and lifts, and the dust cup can be cut open along a scissor line for easier exchange of router bits.

The kit includes the Dust Cup™, 20″ Dust Tube, 35″ Dust Tube, Fence Connector, T-Connector w/Plug, Cup Connector, Vinyl Strap, Velcro Hook Circle Pad (3), Mounting Screws and a manual.
