06 Jan WEN 4000-Watt Generator with CO Shutdown Sensor
A new 4000 surge/3500 rated Watt open frame inverter generator from WEN (item GN400iX, $475.64) is parallel-ready. It has a panel that lets the operator connect any two WEN inverter generators together for increased wattage output. The 212cc 4-stroke CARB-compliant OHV engine produces 4000 surge watts and 3500 rated watts, so the output on the jobsite is about 30 Amps of household current. Its Watchdog CO Shutdown Sensor helps protect users (and customers) by automatically turning off the generator if dangerous levels of carbon monoxide are detected. The unit is equipped with two 120-Volt 20 Amp receptacles, two 5V USB ports, and a 120-Volt 30 Amp RV receptacle (it takes a different plug that’s widely available). WEN says the generator “provides clean energy, free of voltage spikes and drops for safe use with laptops, phones, and other sensitive electronics”. Designed to mirror a pure sine wave, it limits total harmonic distortion to under 1.2 percent at full load, making it safe to run sensitive electronics. The 1.85-gallon tank provides over 7 hours of half-load run time. There’s an eco-mode switch that allows the generator’s engine to automatically adjust its fuel consumption as items are plugged into and unplugged from the panel, preventing the unnecessary usage of gasoline. Low-oil and low-fuel automatic shutdowns combine with a built-in overload protection and indicator lights to safeguard both the generator and connected electronics from damage. It comes with a two-year warranty.
